Travel Documentation and Passports

Haven’t traveled recently? Take a few minutes to go over new US regulations that went into effect January 2007 so you won’t honeymoon unprepared.

First off, regulations require passports to fly into Canada, Mexico, the Caribbeans, and Bermuda. With these new rules, hordes of beach going consumers are applying for passports. What used to be a six week waiting period turned into up to a 12 month fiasco where people had to make other arrangements while they wait for their passport to be created.

How to Apply

passport, travel information, honeymoon travel

As of current date, plan to apply for your passport half a year ahead of time, just in case. Just started

planning the wedding? Apply for a passport now! If it’s your first time applying, you will

have to apply in person, usually at local post offices.

Unexpected travel? You can shell out an extra $60 per passport to get your documents within two weeks through the expedited service.

Passport Hints

  • If you want to travel to the Caribbean without the passport hassle, you can still enter one of the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John) or Puerto Rico without a passport.
  • Some countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months after your arrival date, so if you’ll be honeymooning anywhere near your passport’s expiration date, it’s better to renew now.
  • Visit Travel.State.gov for more travel and passport information.
